Adeola Omotoso, daughter of renowned Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has courageously shared her harrowing experience of being trafficked to Mali and forced into prostitution.
In a recent interview, Adeola revealed how she was deceived by someone who promised her a legitimate job abroad. Trusting this opportunity, she embarked on a long journey by road, passing through multiple West African countries before arriving in Bamako, Mali.
Upon arrival, the situation took a dark turn. Instead of the promised job, Adeola was confronted with the grim reality of being sold into prostitution to repay a debt of 1.5 million CFA francs.
Despite threats and having her phone and travel documents confiscated, she refused to comply with the demands. Her refusal led to her being taken to a brothel, where she stood firm against the coercion.
Fortunately, a compassionate stranger helped her escape the brutal conditions. Adeola then found work as a food vendor, struggling to survive in an unfamiliar and hostile environment.
During her time there, she witnessed the tragic consequences of trafficking on other Nigerians, many of whom lost their lives in similar circumstances.
The ordeal left her feeling isolated and ashamed to contact her family, choosing instead to save money quietly before planning her return.
After enduring four difficult years, Adeola was finally rescued and reunited with her family. The reunion was emotional and marked by the presence of her mother, Jumoke George, alongside prominent figures such as Abike Dabiri-Erewa and actor Adeniyi Johnson.
Reflecting on her journey, Adeola expressed deep gratitude for the protection and strength that saw her through the ordeal, highlighting the importance of family and hope even in the darkest moments.
