American pop star Miley Cyrus has opened up about the emotional and physical strain she endured during a past New Year’s Eve performance, revealing she pushed through the show while suffering a ruptured ovarian cyst.

In a candid interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cyrus recalled the traumatic experience, describing the pain as “extremely excruciating.” Despite not fully understanding the severity of her condition at the time, she chose to go on with the performance.

“It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway,” she shared. “But it was really, really hard on me.”

Following the event, Cyrus said a dinner conversation with Canadian film producer Lorne Michaels gave her a new perspective. Michaels told her that many artists face similar emotional and physical trials and often consider walking away from their careers.

“He said something that has stuck with me,” Cyrus recalled. “He goes, ‘Six months. Everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild.’”

She added that his words helped her find the strength to keep going, realizing she wasn’t alone in her struggles.

Cyrus’s revelation sheds light on the often-hidden pressures artists face, performing through pain and personal turmoil to meet public expectations.
