Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has proudly declared that he built his music career from the ground up without any godfather or industry co-signs.
The singer made this statement while celebrating a new personal achievement surpassing 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time.
This milestone comes on the heels of his recently released fifth studio album, 5ive, which has continued to gain massive traction globally.
Taking to social media to express gratitude, Davido emphasized that his journey was not backed by powerful figures in the industry, unlike some of his peers who had major endorsements early on.
“No co-sign, built from the ground up! Just God, good music and the best fans! Appreciate you guys fr ” Davido wrote.
Despite coming from a wealthy background, the singer has often faced criticism that his success was influenced by privilege. However, his latest statement seems to challenge that narrative, highlighting his hard work and consistency over the years.
Davido also gave credit to God and his loyal fan base, whom he described as instrumental in his journey to the top. Known for hits like “Fall,” “If,” and “Unavailable,” the OBO crooner has cemented his place as one of Africa’s biggest music exports.
The 5ive album has been well-received, contributing significantly to his surge in listenership. This latest feat on Spotify further underscores Davido’s staying power and influence in the music industry, not just in Nigeria but across the globe.
As fans continue to stream his new album, the singer’s message serves as both inspiration and a reminder of what dedication, talent, and faith can achieve without needing a godfather.
