Nollywood actress and filmmaker Uche Jombo recently addressed a comment made by a Twitter user regarding the just-concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The fan suggested that Jombo should have accepted an award on behalf of her colleague and fellow actress, Chioma Chukwuka.
During the awards ceremony, Chioma Chukwuka was named a winner but was notably absent from the event. Her absence sparked conversation online, with some fans expressing disappointment that no one had stepped forward to collect the award on her behalf. One such Twitter user directed their sentiment at Uche Jombo, questioning why she didn't accept the award for her friend.
In response to the tweet, Uche Jombo took to her own Twitter page to offer clarification. She pointed out that she was not even aware Chioma had won the award until later. According to Jombo, the AMVCA organizers did not announce the winner for that category during the live broadcast.
She tweeted: “How would I have known when the award wasn't even announced? We saw it when everyone saw it.”
Her response shed light on the confusion surrounding the presentation of some categories during the awards ceremony, as not all winners were announced on stage. Fans who had been watching the event live only discovered certain winners later through official announcements and online updates.
Jombo’s reply also highlighted the support and camaraderie among Nollywood actors, while subtly addressing public expectations of celebrity behavior at high-profile events like the AMVCAs.
