Femi Opesusi, the heartbroken father of 19-year-old Timilehin, has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to release what he believes to be the authentic Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score of his daughter, who died by suicide after receiving a result she claimed was inaccurate.
In a recent interview, Mr. Opesusi emotionally recounted the moments leading up to Timilehin’s tragic death. According to him, his daughter who had performed well in the 2024 UTME was devastated when her 2025 score came back significantly lower than expected.
She had reportedly scored 190 the previous year, but her latest result was 146, despite no significant change in her academic preparation.
“She kept insisting it wasn’t her true result,” Mr. Opesusi revealed, adding that his daughter was among candidates who faced technical issues during the 2025 UTME exercise. Over 300,000 students nationwide reportedly experienced system failures and disruptions during the exams.
Although JAMB later conducted resits for affected candidates, Mr. Opesusi claims his daughter’s score remained unchanged, leading her into a state of despair.
Despite his attempts to reassure her that the issue could be corrected, she died shortly after expressing her frustration and disbelief over the result. Now, Mr. Opesusi is asking for one thing: clarity.
“I don’t want money. I don’t want an apology. I just want to see my daughter’s real result,” he said.
He also criticized JAMB’s silence, stating that the board has neither contacted him nor acknowledged his concerns.
As questions continue to mount over the integrity of the examination process, Mr. Opesusi’s appeal underscores the urgent need for transparency, especially when lives are impacted so deeply.
