American R&B star Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester in the early hours of Thursday, following an investigation linked to a violent altercation at a London nightclub last year.

Authorities confirmed that the 36-year-old singer was taken into custody by officers from the Metropolitan Police at the upscale Lowry Hotel. The arrest is connected to an alleged assault that occurred on February 19, 2023, in Hanover Square, central London.

According to police reports, Brown is suspected of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in custody as investigations continue. The incident reportedly took place at Tape, a high-end nightclub popular among celebrities, where Brown was said to have assaulted a fellow partygoer, music producer Abe Diaw.

Diaw claims the altercation left him seriously injured, alleging that the singer struck him repeatedly with a tequila bottle during the confrontation. He also stated he needed medical attention and was on crutches following the event.

Brown had been in the UK for his Breezy Bowl XX Tour and was expected to return for more performances in the coming weeks. However, with this latest development, it remains uncertain whether those tour dates will proceed as planned.

In addition to the criminal charges, a civil suit has been filed by Diaw, who is seeking $16 million in damages for the injuries and losses he says he suffered due to the incident.

Brown’s legal team has not issued a public comment. The artist, who has had previous run-ins with the law, is now facing renewed scrutiny just as he marks 20 years in the music industry.

Fans and industry observers alike are waiting to see how this arrest might impact his upcoming shows and broader career trajectory.
