American business magnate and media veteran David Geffen has officially initiated divorce proceedings to end his marriage to David Armstrong, just shy of their second wedding anniversary.
Geffen, aged 82, reportedly filed the paperwork in Los Angeles through renowned divorce attorney Laura Wasser. The stated cause for the split is irreconcilable differences. Armstrong, 32, who was previously known in entertainment circles by his stage name Donovan Michaels, had a background in go-go dancing before marrying Geffen.
Their union, which began in 2022, caught public attention due to their 50-year age gap. However, the end of the marriage has sparked renewed interest particularly because they did not sign a prenuptial agreement. This has led to widespread speculation about how the divorce might affect Geffen’s vast financial empire.
Despite Geffen’s estimated net worth of $8.7 billion, financial analysts believe Armstrong is unlikely to secure a major portion of that fortune. California divorce laws generally protect individual investment earnings like dividends and capital gains, particularly when the income stems from separate property. Because of this, Armstrong’s potential share of Geffen’s wealth could be minimal.
Nevertheless, court filings reveal that Geffen has agreed to cover Armstrong’s legal expenses and will offer some form of spousal support. However, under state guidelines, the support is expected to last around a year roughly half the length of their brief marriage.
Over the years, Geffen has become known not just for his success in the entertainment industry but also for his philanthropy, contributing significantly to education, health, and the arts. His personal life, though mostly private, occasionally makes headlines and this divorce has once again put him in the spotlight.
