Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ugezu J. Ugezu has recounted the touching story of a Nigerian medical doctor whose pursuit of a better life abroad took a drastic turn.
In a social media post, Ugezu revealed that the doctor, who previously ran a clinic in Nigeria, sold his practice and moved to the United States in search of greener pastures. However, upon arriving in the U.S., the medical professional ended up working as a butcher in a meat shop.
The filmmaker noted that the man now lives in fear of being recognized by fellow Nigerians and goes to great lengths to stay out of sight.
“In the name of Japa, a practising medical doctor in Nigeria sold his clinic and relocated to the US,” Ugezu wrote. “Finally, he is now in a US city. Guess what? He now works as a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed. For how long?”
He ended his message with a caution to the public, stressing that not everything is as it seems: “A lot of things are not really what they appear. Be guided.”
Ugezu’s account adds to the growing conversations around the realities of migration, especially among professionals who leave Nigeria expecting better opportunities abroad.
