Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized after being brutally stabbed 14 times inside a California prison. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was attacked by a fellow inmate at around 7:20 a.m. According to reports, the 32-year-old sustained multiple stab wounds to his back, head, face, and torso. The injuries were so severe that both of his lungs reportedly collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing machine temporarily.
A statement shared via his official Instagram account confirmed the attack and his condition, saying, “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.”
Prison staff acted swiftly, providing first aid before transporting the rapper to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Authorities have launched a full investigation, but no motive for the stabbing has been revealed.
Lanez made headlines in 2023 when he was convicted of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion during an altercation in 2020 after a party at Kylie Jenner’s home. Megan, born Megan Pete, suffered injuries that required surgery. Lanez was found guilty of three felony counts, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
His sentencing drew major public attention, with celebrities like 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea calling for leniency. Before his imprisonment, Lanez enjoyed massive success with several top-charting albums. He recently hinted at a new album titled Peterson, even from behind bars.
This latest incident has sparked fresh concern over the safety of high-profile inmates in the U.S. prison system.
