Nollywood actress Mide Martins has taken to social media to honor the memory of her late mother, Funmi Martins, on the 23rd anniversary of her passing.
Reflecting on the emotional milestone, Mide shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram page, expressing how the loss still feels fresh despite the years that have passed. Calling her mother a "rare gem" and "a real angel in human skin," the actress poured out her emotions, noting the deep void left by her mother’s absence.
"*23 YEARS AGO LIKE YESTERDAY!!!** OLUWAFUNMILAYO FLORENCE ANIKE MAMA MI. It’s been 23 years since I lost my beloved mama & best friend!!!. You were indeed a RARE GEM!!! A REAL ANGEL IN HUMAN SKIN. I can’t express how much I miss you in words, MAAMI. Still think about you a lot, and every time I find myself shedding tears. The beautiful and precious memories of you will never be forgotten, and your impact on this world will never be erased. Continue to rest peacefully in the blossom of your creator, ANIKE. I love you forever, IYA MI ONIN’URE,” she wrote.
Her husband, actor Afeez Owo, joined in honoring the late actress, commenting, “23 years just like yesterday. May her soul continue to rest in peace.”
Fellow Nollywood colleagues also extended their condolences. Actress Kemi Korede commented, “Continue to rest in peace, mama,” while Dayo Amusa left a trail of love emojis in response to the post.
Funmi Martins, a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry, passed away in 2002, but her legacy continues to live on through her daughter and admirers.
