Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), a renowned Nollywood actor, has said he disliked being referred to as a legend.

During an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, the film star explained that he doesn’t accept the title of legend, as he considers it a “scam”.

He mentioned that actors such as Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie genuinely deserve the legend title, and he doesn’t consider himself part of that group just yet.

He explained that such a label gives the impression that he is past his prime and nearing retirement.

“I think all those legend thing is a scam. I have my legends like uncle Olu Jacobs, uncle Peter, those are our ancestors, our legends,” he said.

“I was still watching him when he was saying Ribena children are healthy children.

“So I don’t subscribe to that, I think it is a scam when they call me legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighbourhood of retired people or should be nearing retirement. So, no, I don’t subscribe to it.”

RMD, born on July 6, 1961, originates from the Aladja community in Udu Kingdom, Delta State.

He completed his primary and secondary education in Warri before studying Theater Arts at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

With a career spanning over three decades, he is regarded as one of the leading figures in the Nigerian movie industry.
