Nigerian street-hop star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has sparked fresh controversy in the entertainment and sports world, declaring that his next boxing opponent should be none other than British-Nigerian heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua.
Speaking with PUNCH Sports Extra, Portable boldly stated, “Now that I’ve beaten Speed Darlington, it is only Anthony Joshua I can fight now.”
This statement follows his recent triumph in the celebrity boxing scene at the Chaos In The Ring event, held on April 18 at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos. The match saw Portable face off against US-based Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, with the latter claiming to have dislocated his shoulder in the second round, forcing him to quit the fight.
Portable, who gained widespread fame with his hit song Zazuu, celebrated the victory and revealed that Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy had gifted him N20 million after the match. He also expressed his desire to collaborate musically with Burna Boy, referencing the ongoing tension between the two and Speed Darlington.
Speed Darlington, however, wasn’t pleased with the outcome, demanding a rematch while accusing Portable of using mystical powers to secure the win. In an Instagram video, Speed stated, “Portable, I want a rematch. It breaks my heart you are carrying that money. It is so unfair; you have up to two experiences fighting. I have not entered the ring before.”
He also accused the organisers of bias, claiming that Portable’s Yoruba background had influenced the fight’s result. Despite Speed’s frustrations, the match had not gone to a decision, as Speed quit due to injury.
Portable, undeterred by the accusations, responded with sarcasm: “I am not a loser, I am a winner. He is saying I used juju. Yes, na juju — go find your own juju,” he quipped.
This isn’t the first time Portable has set his sights on Anthony Joshua. Earlier in April, he had called out the world-renowned boxer via Instagram, demanding a N100 million purse to face him in the ring.
“I’m not fighting Speed Darlington again; I want Anthony Joshua with N100m,” Portable said in a video posted on April 9.
The victory over Speed Darlington adds another win to Portable’s growing boxing record, which includes a December 2023 win against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha in another celebrity match.
