Renowned media mogul Mo Abudu has been honoured by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2025, a milestone that highlights her profound contributions to the global creative industry. This recognition is not just an accolade, it’s a testament to her years of relentless innovation in storytelling and media production.
Since launching EbonyLife TV in 2013, Abudu has transformed African content creation, producing blockbuster titles like The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Ã’lòtÅ«ré and Blood Sisters, the latter becoming Netflix’s first Nigerian original series. Each project not only entertained but also challenged perceptions and broadened the global audience's understanding of African narratives.
Beyond film and television, Abudu is reshaping the ecosystem that supports African creatives. Her EbonyLife Creative Academy equips emerging filmmakers with world class skills, while EbonyLife Place serves as a cultural hub in Lagos. In 2024 she announced the $50 million Afro Film Fund to support African stories on a global scale, a landmark step toward sustainable investment in the continent’s film industry.
Her inclusion on the TIME100 list was accompanied by a glowing tribute from British actor Idris Elba, who praised her tenacity and leadership as they collaborate on the upcoming film Dust to Dreams. Elba called her “a force who gets things done.”
Abudu responded to the honour with humility, calling it a celebration of African creativity, Nigerian purpose and the power of storytelling. Her journey continues to inspire, proving that with vision and grit, African creatives can lead the global conversation.
