Veteran Nigerian Fuji musician Alhaji Kollington has responded to his colleague King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 or Kwam1, after Kwam1 publicly expressed frustration over Kollington not offering condolences after the passing of his mother.
In a recent interview with Agbaletu TV, Kwam1 revealed that he was upset by Kollington’s failure to visit or reach out following his mother’s death. K1 recalled how he had been there for Kollington during the loss of his own mother, providing financial support and bringing important figures to the funeral. However, Kwam1 felt unappreciated by the lack of response from Kollington.
Moreover, Kwam1 pointed out that Kollington, who was healthy and in Nigeria at the time, claimed he had tried to reach out but received no response from Kwam1.
In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, Kollington denied K1’s accusations, asserting that he had tried several times to contact Kwam1 after the death of his mother, but Kwam1 never picked up or returned his calls. He questioned whether Kwam1 was too busy to reply and accused him of becoming arrogant after receiving the title of Olori Omoba.
Kollington also addressed Kwam1’s desire to lead the Fuji music scene, saying that he remains the true leader of the genre and that Kwam1 would need to “remove” him to take that position. He emphasized that as long as he is alive, Kwam1 cannot replace him.
Kollington remarked, “When Wasiu Ayinde’s mum d!ed, I called him severally. He didn’t pick nor did he return the calls. Even on New Year’s Day, I called, and he didn’t pick up. I was like, what’s wrong with this boy? So I let him be. He can’t tell me he was busy. What was he busy doing? If it is because he was crowned The ‘Olori omoba’, that position is for his family at Ijebu, not for me. Does he want to become God? I am the leader of all Fuji Singers. If he wants to become the leader, he can come and kpai me. He can never be the leader when I am still alive. For me to have survived the sickness that happened to me recently, it is only God that can kpai me.”
