Gunmen have tragically killed two brothers, Moses Amasandi Basungyu, 21, and Moses Mikhinma Basungyu, in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. The brothers, both students at the Federal University Wukari, were ambushed while on their way to the farm early on Friday, April 4th, 2025. The attack has left the local community in shock and grief.
The Wukari Local Government Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Taraba, Honourable Dauda Agbu Samaila, confirmed the incident. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Ibrahim Audu Angyu, the chairman stated that the killings were carried out by Tiv militias in the Frontline Wapan Nghaku area within the Hospital ward of Wukari.
The statement highlighted the tragic loss of two promising young men, both of whom were engaged in agricultural activities when they met their untimely deaths. Honourable Samaila expressed his deepest condolences to the Basungyu family, the people of Wukari, and the entire community, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of their souls.
This killing is part of the broader wave of violence linked to the ongoing Jukun-Tiv conflict, which has caused severe tension in the region. The Wukari LGA chairman has been working tirelessly to promote peace and reconciliation among the conflicting ethnic groups, but such incidents serve as stark reminders of the fragile security situation in the area.
The killings have sparked widespread outrage and calls for stronger action to prevent further violence in the region. Local leaders and community members are urging for greater efforts toward peace and unity to end the cycle of violence that continues to devastate the lives of many
