Nigerian music star Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, has officially ended his partnership with Warner Music South Africa, signalling the beginning of a new phase in his career.
The ‘Love Nwantiti’ hitmaker made the announcement in a statement on Friday, where he appreciated the label for their role in his artistic growth and hinted at upcoming creative pursuits.
“Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was significant, which I’m grateful for. Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and horizons,” he said.
CKay rose to international stardom in 2019 after the release of “Love Nwantiti,” a song that became a viral sensation worldwide. His music journey began in earnest when he signed with Chocolate City in 2015, a move that led to the release of his acclaimed EP CKay the First.
By 2021, CKay confirmed that he was no longer with Chocolate City and had joined Warner Music South Africa, under which he expanded his global reach.
In August 2024, the singer took a bold step by launching his own record label, Boyfriend Music, alongside his longtime friend Joseph Salubi. The label was created with a focus on protecting creatives and ensuring they earn what they deserve.
He explained that the mission of Boyfriend Music is to guarantee that “artistes, songwriters, and producers receive their rightful royalties.”
With Warner Music now behind him, CKay is set to chart a new course under his own label, leaving fans eager to see what the future holds.
