Afrobeats stars Ayra Starr and Wizkid have joined forces once again for a brand-new single titled Gimme Dat, which dropped in the early hours of Friday.
Produced by VybeO and Mikabeatz, the fresh release features a nostalgic twist, cleverly incorporating a sample from Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s 2000 classic 911.
Gimme Dat marks the second collaboration between the two Nigerian hitmakers. Their first joint effort, 2 Sugar, appeared on Wizkid’s 2022 album More Love, Less Ego and earned a nomination for Best Afrobeats at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
This new release also serves as Ayra Starr’s second single of 2025, following February’s All The Love.
Starr, whose full name is Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, rose to prominence in 2021 with her breakthrough anthem Bloody Samaritan. Under the mentorship of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, she has quickly become one of the leading voices in Afrobeats, racking up awards and accolades along the way.
In 2025, she made history at the MOBO Awards by becoming the first African female artist in 16 years to win both Best International Act and Best African Music Act.
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, burst onto the music scene with his 2011 debut album Superstar. His impressive catalog includes Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017), and More Love, Less Ego (2022).
His latest project, Morayo, released on November 22, 2024, is a deeply personal tribute to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.
