Senate's Probe into Akpoti-Uduaghan Put on Hold by Court

Senate's Probe into Akpoti-Uduaghan Put on Hold by Court

A Federal High Court in Abuja has stepped in to halt the Senate's investigation into Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central. Judge Obiora Egwuatu issued an order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with disciplinary actions against Akpoti-Uduaghan. This decision comes after her counsel filed an ex parte application, effectively putting the investigation on hold.

The Senate's probe aimed to investigate allegations against Akpoti-Uduaghan, but the court's ruling has temporarily blocked their efforts. According to the enrolled court order, the court granted leave to Akpoti-Uduaghan to serve the defendants with originating summons and other processes.

The court also issued an interim injunction restraining the Senate Committee from proceeding with the investigation, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

Furthermore, the court directed the defendants to show cause within 72 hours why an order of interlocutory injunction should not be granted against them.

This development is a significant turn in the ongoing saga between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate. It remains to be seen how the Senate will respond to the court's ruling and what implications this will have for Akpoti-Uduaghan's future in the Senate.
