President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigerians can now purchase food without difficulty due to improvements in the economy and security. Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a Sallah homage led by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Tinubu attributed this progress to key policy changes, including the removal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
According to Tinubu, his administration has focused on opening up rural areas and revamping essential infrastructure. He highlighted the rehabilitation of health centers, improvements in FCT residents’ healthcare facilities, and the refurbishment of school buildings. “The residence of the vice president that has been abandoned for years came alive. The health centers were being rehabilitated. The health facilities of the residents of FCT are being upgraded. Our teachers at school are being rehabilitated, buildings are furnished. Thank you, Wike,” he said.
The President also emphasized that security had improved and economic activities were becoming more stable. He claimed that hunger was decreasing and that food prices were beginning to fall, making it easier for Nigerians to buy food and conduct business in the market.
However, Tinubu’s statement comes at a time when many Nigerians are still struggling with high inflation and a rising cost of living. Food prices remain a significant concern for citizens, with many expressing skepticism about the government’s claims of economic improvement.
While the President remains optimistic, public reactions suggest a different reality for many Nigerians. Whether these policies will bring lasting relief to the masses remains to be seen.
