The arraignment of Ezekiel Onyedikachi, Mercy Chinwo's ex-manager, has been stalled due to an administrative procedure at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Onyedikachi is facing a 10-count amended charge for allegedly converting $840,477 and laundering money. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initially filed a four-count charge against him for fraudulent conversion of $345,000.
The case took a dramatic turn when Onyedikachi suddenly ran out of the courtroom, avoiding journalists who were trying to take his picture.
The judge, Justice Alexander Owoeye, had informed the parties that an administrative procedure was ongoing and that he couldn't make any pronouncements until it's completed. The judge also declined the request to maintain the status quo pending the completion of the procedure.²
The EFCC's counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, announced her appearance for the prosecution, while Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) and Dr. Monday Ubani (SAN) represented the defendant.
The charges against Onyedikachi allege that he withheld funds from Mercy Chinwo's digital platforms and events. The case has been adjourned until May 14, 2025.
