Nigerian actor and content creator Yemi Elesho has revealed a surprising detail about his long-standing friendship with Grammy-winning artist Asake.
In a recent interview, Elesho shared that during their undergraduate days at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, he would pay Asake with a plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as compensation for appearing in his skits and movies.
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees,” Elesho recalled, highlighting their shared history before Asake’s rise to global stardom.
He further described Asake as his “day-one” friend, reminiscing about their time playing celebrity football matches together and working on projects long before fame found the singer.
The revelation has sparked a wave of reactions, with fans praising Asake’s humble beginnings and his incredible journey to becoming one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports.
