Dr. Doyin Okupe, a renowned medical doctor and politician, has passed away at the age of 72. He died in Lagos after battling health issues, including prostate cancer, for 16 years. Jamiu Ashimi, Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, confirmed the news, saying, "May his soul rest in peace".

Okupe's battle with prostate cancer began in 2006, and he underwent treatment in the UK. Despite his health challenges, Okupe remained active in politics, serving as presidential spokesperson to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. He was also a former senatorial candidate and Director-General of the Labour Party's Presidential Campaign team in 2022.

Born on March 22, 1952, in Iperu, Ogun State, Okupe graduated from the University of Ibadan with a degree in Medicine and Surgery. He worked as a doctor at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos before establishing the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Obalende, Lagos.

Throughout his career, Okupe demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication to public service. He was a member of several political parties, including the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), National Republican Convention (NRC), and Labour Party. Okupe is survived by his wife, Aduralere Okupe, and two children, Ditan and Bolu. His legacy will be remembered for his contributions to Nigeria's political landscape, and his courage in the face of health adversity.
