Afrobeats sensation Davido has secured a prestigious spot on King Charles III’s exclusive Commonwealth Music Playlist, solidifying his global influence. The British monarch, known for his eclectic taste, unveiled the playlist as part of The King’s Music Room, a special Apple Music show recorded from Buckingham Palace.
The playlist, which spans various genres including disco, reggae, and Afrobeats, features legendary artists such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Raye, and Nigeria’s own Davido. The show is set to air next Monday in celebration of Commonwealth Day.
Speaking on his selections, King Charles III described the playlist as “the soundtrack of his life”, expressing how music has played a significant role in shaping his experiences.
With Davido’s inclusion, fans are celebrating yet another major milestone for Afrobeats on the international stage. Some hail it as proof of Nigeria’s growing dominance in global music, while others question if the selection was politically motivated.
Regardless of the debate, one thing is certain—Davido’s music has reached royal status.
