Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri has revealed that she faced intense death threats and racial slurs after billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk shared a fake report about her.

The controversy began in February 2024, when a false online rumor claimed that Disney was considering Edebiri to replace Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Musk reacted to the baseless report by posting "Disney sucks" on X (formerly Twitter), fueling backlash against the actress.

Edebiri believes Musk’s huge influence made the fake story go viral, triggering waves of harassment from his followers.

"Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life… for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man," she wrote on her Instagram story.

She also took a jab at Musk, calling him “an idiot” and referencing his recent controversies involving extremist gestures.

With tensions rising over Musk’s role in amplifying misinformation, fans are left wondering—will the billionaire ever be held accountable for the chaos he stirs online?
