In a jaw-dropping family feud that’s gripping Nigeria, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, the 90-year-old father of the late Herbert Wigwe, has hauled his 26-year-old granddaughter, Otutochi Channel Wigwe, into a heated courtroom battle over the banking titan’s vast estate.

The legal showdown, unfolding at the Lagos State High Court, pits the elderly patriarch and his ally, Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, against Herbert’s daughter and key figures like Uche Wigwe and Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, in a clash over who controls the billionaire’s legacy.

Herbert Wigwe, the visionary ex-CEO of Access Bank, perished in a tragic helicopter crash alongside his wife and eldest son in February 2024, leaving behind a fortune that’s now the center of this explosive drama. Pastor Shyngle and Christian sought to appoint an interim estate administrator, claiming a need to safeguard the assets amid whispers of a contested will.

But on February 6, 2025, Justice A.O. Adeyemi shut down their bid, ruling it too close to the main case’s core issues—only for the defiant duo to storm the Appeal Court with a filing dated February 13, 2025, refusing to back down.

The saga kicked off in October 2024 when rumors swirled that Pastor Shyngle’s faction tried to tweak Herbert’s will to edge out his kids, a claim the family fiercely denied. A leaked caveat filed by Christian, acting for the pastor, fueled the fire, alleging hidden agendas. In court, the claimants pushed for privacy citing minor children, but the defense—led by legal heavyweight Paul Usoro SAN—demanded a public hearing, thrusting the dispute into the spotlight.

Undeterred by the loss, Pastor Shyngle’s camp argues the court misjudged their plea for interim control to protect the estate, citing Section 24 of the Administration of Estate Law. They’re also challenging a prior guardianship order they say sidelined them unjustly and seeking a Norwich Pharmacal order to force Access Bank and another financial institution to spill details on Herbert’s holdings, hinting at missing assets under the defendants’ grip.

As this blockbuster battle heads to the Appeal Court, it’s a clash of legacy, loyalty, and lucre—proving the Wigwe empire’s drama is far from over!
