The Edo State Police Command has arrested Kelvin Izekor for allegedly killing his 38-year-old wife, Success Izekor, at their residence in Upper Mission Extension, Benin City. The tragic incident occurred on February 22, 2025. According to eyewitness accounts, Kelvin allegedly struck his wife on the head with a cutlass, inflicting deep wounds that led to her death.
Reports indicate that the couple had been married since June 2024, and neighbors had previously witnessed instances of domestic abuse. Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, Edo police spokesperson Moses Yamu revealed that an irate mob attempted to lynch Kelvin before officers arrived at the scene to rescue him.
“On 22/02/2025 at about 2200hrs, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of No. 50 Upper Mission Extension, Benin City, had killed his wife, Success Izekor, aged 38, and was about to be lynched by an irate mob,” the statement read. “Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded and found the woman lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on her head.
It took serious efforts by the police to pacify the mob, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody for investigation. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.” The police confirmed that Kelvin has been charged in court and remanded in prison.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, condemned the rising cases of domestic violence and assured the public of a thorough investigation, stating that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
The moral lesson here is clear: if you are tired of the marriage, it is better to quit than to engage in domestic violence.
