Governors from the South-West region of Nigeria have gathered in Lagos for a crucial meeting aimed at addressing key issues affecting the zone. The meeting, hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who also chairs the South-West Governors’ Forum, saw the arrival of prominent leaders including Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. The governors were welcomed into the executive chamber of the Lagos House in Ikeja, where discussions on regional development and collaboration are set to take place.
According to a statement by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the agenda for the meeting includes critical topics such as agriculture, food security, and strategies to boost economic growth in the South-West. Additionally, the governors will deliberate on security matters, particularly the safety of lives and property, which remains a top priority for the region. The South-West has been proactive in addressing security challenges, including the establishment of the Amotekun security outfit, and this meeting is expected to further strengthen regional cooperation in tackling these issues.
