In a startling revelation that has rocked the Nigerian film industry, acclaimed actress Biodun Okeowo has come forward with allegations of sexual harassment by Nollywood marketers, claiming it was the catalyst for her exit from the screen.
Okeowo, who tied the knot with her US-based fiancé Adeniyi Olabiyi in July 2024, shared her ordeal via an Instagram story that has since gone viral. She disclosed that after refusing to comply with the sexual demands of industry marketers, she was blacklisted, a move that effectively ended her once-thriving career.
"Marketers were the reason I left the industry after blacklisting me for refusing to remove my panties," Biodun stated. She further explained how these marketers not only prevented producers from casting her but also went to the extent of erasing her image from the promotional materials of a movie where she was the lead actress.
"They did so much damage to my career that I eventually got tired of acting and walked away myself. I developed so much hatred for a job I once had great passion for that I began to turn down roles," she recounted.
Okeowo's revelation has sparked a massive debate on the ethical practices within Nollywood, with fans and industry insiders alike calling for a thorough investigation into the treatment of actors, especially women, by those in power.
