Nollywood’s queen Funke Akindele just dropped a swagger-soaked truth bomb that’s shaking up the industry!
At the MIPAN 2025 Media Sales Conference in Lagos on February 27, 2025, the blockbuster maven strutted her stuff, declaring herself a self-made sensation—with a little divine nudge, of course. “Nobody made me a star, only God!” she bragged, crediting her grit and hustle for her Nollywood throne.
But hold the script, Funke tossed a juicy nugget into the mix, tipping her hat to D’banj for a career-defining push. “The first Jenifa dropped in 2009 that was my turning point,” she spilled. “Amid the hype, I met D’banj at a club gig. He told me, ‘Milk that Jenifa brand don’t let it die!’ Gave me cash, and I ran with it; wrote more, and boom!” From her 2008 Jenifa breakout, after shining in I Need to Know (1998-2002) to reigning as Nigeria’s highest-grossing producer, Funke’s a force!
