Bill Gates has publicly confirmed his relationship with Paula Hurd, a 62-year-old widow and former tech executive. The Microsoft co-founder made the announcement during an appearance on The Today Show, stating that he's "lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula."
Gates, 69, has been spotted with Hurd on several occasions over the past few years. Hurd is the widow of Mark Hurd, the former CEO of Oracle. She is now an event planner, organizer, and philanthropist. The confirmation of their relationship comes less than a month after Gates expressed regret over his divorce from his ex-wife Melinda French Gates. In an interview with The Times, Gates called the divorce "the mistake I most regret."
However, Gates seems to have moved on and is enjoying his new relationship. He mentioned that he and Hurd are "having fun" and attended the Olympics together. Gates also gave a special shoutout to Hurd in the acknowledgments of his new memoir, Source Code: My Beginnings. He thanked her for being a "thoughtful friend" and providing feedback on the manuscript.
The memoir, which was published on Tuesday, is an origin story about Gates' life and the early days of Microsoft. Gates' confirmation of his relationship with Hurd marks a new chapter in his personal life. Despite his past regrets, he appears to be happy and fulfilled with his new partner.
