Access Bank has paid a heartfelt tribute to Herbert Wigwe, the late CEO of Access Holdings, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizzy, marking one year since their tragic passing in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024. The bank commemorated their lives in a poignant statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), honoring their legacy and the profound impact they had on the institution and the broader community.

The statement read, “Today marks one year since the world stood still for us. On this day, we lost Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi—three remarkable souls who left an indelible mark on our lives and our hearts. As we reflect, we carry forward the values they instilled and honour their memories by walking the path they paved for us. Forever in our hearts.”

The Wigwes were among six victims who lost their lives when their helicopter crashed near the Mojave Desert in California. The tragic incident sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s business and financial sectors, as Herbert Wigwe was widely celebrated as one of the nation’s most influential banking leaders. His visionary leadership at Access Bank transformed the institution into one of Africa’s leading financial powerhouses, while his philanthropic efforts and commitment to community development left a lasting legacy.

Chizoba Wigwe, a devoted wife and mother, was also remembered for her grace and support, while their son Chizzy symbolized the promise of a bright future. The loss of the Wigwe family was deeply felt not only by Access Bank but also by countless individuals whose lives they touched.
