The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Taiwo Adeleke, a woman suspected of cybercrimes, who allegedly used TikTok to defraud unsuspecting victims. Adeleke is accused of fabricating false social responsibility initiatives to deceive individuals and steal millions of naira.

On Sunday, January 26, CSP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, released a statement detailing the fraudulent activities attributed to Adeleke. According to a recent victim, Olushola Bankole, who reported to the police on the same day, he initially encountered Adeleke online, where she posed as a successful businesswoman in the palm oil industry.

"She convinced me of the significant profits from investing in her business," Bankole recounted. Trusting her claims, Bankole transferred one million two hundred thousand naira (₦1,200,000) into Adeleke’s account.

Following Bankole's report, the Ibafo Divisional Police Officer conducted an extensive investigation, uncovering further evidence linking Adeleke to multiple similar scams. Preliminary findings reveal that at least five other victims have come forward, collectively losing a total of four million naira (₦4,000,000) to Adeleke’s schemes.

CSP Odutola emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation, with efforts focused on identifying all individuals involved in the fraudulent activities. She assured the public that, upon conclusion of the investigation, the case would be prosecuted in court.

Odutola also urged anyone with additional information about Adeleke or similar fraudulent activities to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The arrest of Taiwo Adeleke underscores the perils of the digital world and highlights the importance of being cautious when dealing with online entities. The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding the public from cybercriminals and ensuring justice is served.
