The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards have been announced, and Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez has emerged as the front-runner with an impressive 13 nominations.
The groundbreaking film, which stars Karla Sofía Gascon, has received nods in major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress.
Other strong contenders include The Brutalist, which secured nominations for Best Picture, Best Director (Brady Corbet), and Best Actor (Adrien Brody). The highly anticipated adaptation of Wicked also dazzled with nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress (Cynthia Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande).
In the acting categories, the competition is fierce. Best Actor nominees include Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice). On the Best Actress front, Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) and Karla Sofía Gascon (Emilia Pérez) are among the top contenders.
Technical categories also feature standout nominations. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two earned recognition for Cinematography and Visual Effects, while Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist were also highlighted for their visual artistry.
Animated films are well-represented with Inside Out 2 and Memoir of a Snail earning nods, while the International Feature Film category celebrates Emilia Pérez (France) and I’m Still Here (Brazil) as frontrunners.
