Renowned gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has taken her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, to court over the alleged diversion of $345,000 in music royalties.

The Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a motion to ensure Onyedikachukwu's appearance in court, leading to the Lagos State Federal High Court issuing a warrant for his arrest. The ex-manager is accused of failing to remit Chinwo’s rightful share of royalties from her online platforms and concert performances.

According to an affidavit submitted by the EFCC, Chinwo had petitioned the commission over the matter. Despite efforts to apprehend Onyedikachukwu, authorities have been unable to locate him, prompting the court to intervene. Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the EFCC’s request for an arrest warrant on Thursday.

Onyedikachukwu is set to be arraigned on January 24, 2025.

Mercy Chinwo, who gained fame after winning the second edition of Nigerian Idol, signed with Onyedikachukwu’s EeZee Conceptz record label in 2017. However, in September 2022, she left the label following a publicized financial dispute.

The case has sparked discussions within the gospel music community, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in artist-management relationships.
