South African media personality Kefilwe Mabote has set social media ablaze—literally and figuratively—after sharing a video of herself burning her luxury designer wardrobe following her newfound faith in Christ. The dramatic gesture, which included destroying pricey items from brands like Versace, has ignited debates online.
Critics questioned why Mabote didn’t donate the expensive clothing to those in need, but the media star took to Instagram to defend her actions. Explaining her decision, Mabote cited biblical teachings, particularly referencing Joshua 7:13, which describes “accursed” items.
“The image of Medusa, for instance, represents a Greek god from the marine kingdom,” Mabote wrote. “As believers, we cannot serve two masters. To give these items away would mean passing on something I no longer stand for, and I can’t in good conscience transfer things with deep spiritual implications.”
While some fans applauded her bold stand and spiritual conviction, others labeled it wasteful, urging her to reconsider such actions in the future. The move has also sparked discussions about balancing personal beliefs with societal responsibility.
