A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has issued a significant ruling involving Miss Rhoda Adu and her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola. The court has ordered Rhoda to pay a total of ₦150,000 in damages to Sola. This decision stems from an incident where Rhoda collected ₦3,000 as transport fare from Sola, promising to visit him, but failed to follow through.
The incident began when Olapitan Sola transferred the transport fare to Rhoda. Shortly after receiving the money, Rhoda switched off her phone and did not show up as promised. Feeling defrauded and emotionally distressed by her actions, Sola reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station.
Following his report, Rhoda was arrested and brought before the court. During the trial, Sola presented evidence to support his claim, including the mobile money transfer receipt and WhatsApp messages exchanged between him and Rhoda. These pieces of evidence demonstrated that Rhoda had indeed agreed to visit him in exchange for the transport fare but failed to honor her promise.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled in favor of Sola. The court ordered Rhoda to refund the ₦3,000 transport fare, pay an additional ₦100,000 for breach of agreement, and another ₦50,000 as special damages for the emotional distress caused to Sola.
Magistrate Oludare emphasized that the ruling was not only to provide justice to Sola but also to serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar deceptive behavior.
