The festive cheer of "Detty December" has taken a sour turn for Nigerian entrepreneur Bizzle Osikoya, co-founder of The Plug Global, as he faces a wave of chargebacks from customers abroad.
Osikoya recently took to social media to voice his frustration over disputes initiated by customers in the UK, US, and Canada after transactions during the popular December celebration period.
One transaction alone, a hefty $690, was flagged as a dispute, leaving Osikoya and his business to bear the brunt of financial losses. In his plea, he urged customers to ensure they could afford the events they attended, emphasizing the strain these chargebacks place on businesses.
Social media erupted with reactions to the issue, with opinions divided. Some users criticized the dishonest behavior of attendees, calling it outright fraud. “If you can’t afford the Detty December lifestyle, stay home,” one user remarked. Others, however, suggested that the problem could stem from confusion over unfamiliar transaction details.
A few commenters called for public accountability, urging Osikoya to name and shame those responsible. Others proposed creative solutions, such as adopting cryptocurrency or more secure payment methods, to mitigate future disputes.
As Detty December winds down, this controversy sheds light on the challenges faced by Nigerian businesses navigating international transactions—and the need for customers to party responsibly.

All of you uk,us & canada people initiating dispute . is it really fair? If you don't have money to spend for Detty December, don't come, it's not by force. My Business has received over 10 in last one week. I can see your real names too. I just don't want to embarrass anyone.… pic.twitter.com/wjuEB8BDa3
