Deji Adeyanju Praises Tinubu's Efforts in Revitalizing Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries

Deji Adeyanju Praises Tinubu's Efforts in Revitalizing Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries

Comrade Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer and activist based in Abuja, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.

In an open letter addressed to the President,  Adeyanju highlighted that the Port Harcourt Refinery has begun producing petroleum products.

The activist expressed his decision to commend Tinubu after verifying reports that both refineries have been fully restored and are now operational, PM NEWS reports Monday.

“Following my personal confirmation of the veracity of the stories, I am compelled to publicly commend President Bola Tinubu for rehabilitating the refineries,” he said in the open letter.

"At a time when Nigerians are groaning over the huge cost of petroleum products, especially PMS, it is a huge relief to observe that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have come back to life, with the possibility of driving competition that will ultimately bring down the prices of petroleum products across the country,”

“It is now obvious that the Nigerian Navy is overstretched and can no longer protect our oil facilities alone. In this light, I call on the President to direct the army to maintain increased presence across our oil facilities and protect them from oil theft.

“While commending Mr. President for the positive steps taken on the refineries, I urge him to take urgent steps to ensure that the life of the average Nigerian is improved, in line with his campaign promises,” Adeyanju said.

It could be recalled that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) announced that it has successfully completed the rehabilitation of the Warri Refinery, following the recent revamp of the 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) Port Harcourt Refinery.

According to Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., the refurbishment of the two refineries is a thorough overhaul aimed at meeting international standards, rather than the traditional Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) approach used in the past.

Soneye noted that similar comprehensive rehabilitation work is currently underway at the 150,000 bpd Port Harcourt Refinery and the Kaduna Refinery, with the goal of bringing them up to world-class standards.

He emphasized that NNPC Ltd. is committed to enhancing and maintaining its refineries to ensure sustainable operations that meet global benchmarks.

Adeyanju emphasized that the rehabilitation and restreaming of the two refineries will not only guarantee a steady supply of petroleum products in Nigeria but will also contribute to reducing the cost of these products, ultimately benefiting the Nigerian populace.

“This progress has been driven by the visionary leadership of the NNPC Limited board and the management team led by GCEO Mele Kyari, alongside President Bola Tinubu’s transformative policies in the energy sector,” he added.
