In a dramatic turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a manhunt for Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, following the release of a viral video allegedly exposing police officers extorting motorists on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Road in Lagos.

The video, shared on Sowore's X and TikTok accounts, has amassed over 917,000 views on X and a staggering 2.9 million views on TikTok, igniting widespread outrage and debate.

The Altercation

The footage captures a heated exchange between Sowore and police officers stationed on the airport road. The officers reportedly attempted to extort motorists, creating unnecessary traffic in the process.

“We are not parking. You are not supposed to be causing traffic on the airport road. Go and bring your Oga,” Sowore is heard telling the officers. Despite his firm stance, the officers blocked his vehicle, insisting he pull over. The confrontation ended with Sowore driving off after a tense standoff, during which an officer was heard muttering, "God punish you," prompting Sowore’s sharp retort, "God punish you too."

Police Reaction

Sources revealed that the manhunt was ordered by Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi after extensive deliberation and pressure on Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to take action against Sowore.

This incident adds to Sowore's legal troubles, as he is scheduled to appear in court on February 4, 2025, for a cybercrime trial initiated by Senator Ned Nwoko. Nwoko, now a member of the ruling APC, had accused Sowore and Sahara Reporters of criminal defamation and false publications.

Public Outrage and Support

The video has sparked a massive online debate, with many Nigerians applauding Sowore for confronting the officers while others question the motives behind his actions. The controversy highlights ongoing issues of police misconduct and accountability in Nigeria.

Stay tuned for updates as this story unfolds, with the nation closely watching the outcome of this high-profile saga.
