Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has opened up about his love story with his wife, Busola Dakolo, revealing the persistence and charm it took to win her over.
In a recent interview with Pulse, the Iyawo Mi crooner shared that their romance began in church, though it was far from love at first sight—at least for Busola.
The Meet-Cute
Dakolo recalled approaching Busola at church and asking her to be his date for a ball. Despite giving him her number, she wasn’t exactly eager to talk.
"She gave me her number but wasn’t picking up the phone when I called. I kept going to the area hoping to see her again. Then one day, I saw her and asked why she wasn’t picking my calls, and she said her phone got stolen," he recounted.
The two eventually became friends, but Busola was determined to keep things platonic, a decision Timi refused to accept:
"I started developing feelings for her and she wanted to friend-zone me, but I refused. I suffered to win her love."
Winning Her Over
The singer went on to describe the lengths he went to for Busola, including driving her to and from work in his branded Picanto car—prized from his win on Idols West Africa in 2007.
"At one time, she used to be embarrassed whenever I picked her up with the branded Picanto I won from Nigerian Idols. I said, ‘Okay, don’t worry. I will shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did."
A Love That Endures
Timi and Busola tied the knot in 2012 and have since built a beautiful life together, welcoming three children into their family. Their story is a testament to persistence, love, and the power of believing in one’s potential.
Their love journey continues to inspire fans, proving that sometimes, persistence truly pays off. ❤️
