Nigerian musician Shallipopi has leveled serious accusations against his former record label, Dapper Music, just weeks after parting ways with them.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Elon Musk crooner alleged financial mismanagement, breach of trust, and exploitation during his time with the label.
A Painful Decision
Shallipopi, who officially ended his contract with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital in November 2024, shared that the decision was not made lightly. In his statement, he expressed frustration over the treatment he received as an artist:
“I am officially ending my agreement with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. This was not a choice I made lightly, but a step I had to take after my trust was broken, my finances mishandled, and my rights were disregarded as an artist.”
A Call for Change
The musician didn’t stop at personal grievances but called out systemic issues within the music industry, highlighting the exploitation of creators:
“This is bigger than just me. It is about every artiste and creator who pours their soul into their work, only to face betrayal and exploitation... It is about standing up for fairness, integrity, and respect that we all deserve.”
He further accused the label of prioritizing profits over his career growth:
“Instead of prioritizing my growth, they prioritized their own profits, putting my career and dreams at risk.”
Fans React
Shallipopi’s outspoken stance has ignited diverse reactions online. While some praised his courage and called for industry reforms to better protect creators, others urged caution, advocating for hearing all sides before forming conclusions.
What’s Next?
Shallipopi’s allegations raise critical questions about the treatment of artists in Nigeria’s music industry. As the story unfolds, fans and industry stakeholders alike are eager to see if Dapper Music will respond to the claims.
For Shallipopi, this chapter may mark a turning point in his career as he forges a new path, but it also ignites a broader conversation about fairness and transparency in the entertainment world.
