Nonso Diobi Reveals Hilda Dokubo Helped Launch His Acting Career Through Uncanny Resemblance

Nollywood star Nonso Diobi has shared the fascinating story of how his resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo opened the door to his first major movie role.

Speaking on the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Diobi recounted how, after three years and over 1,000 unsuccessful auditions, an unexpected twist of fate set him on the path to stardom.

Diobi was at yet another audition when Hilda Dokubo spotted him. Seeing a resemblance, she suggested to the director that he be cast as her brother in the film.

“I started hearing people calling me from afar,” Diobi said. “Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother.’”

Without even auditioning, Diobi landed the role, marking the beginning of what would become a celebrated career in Nollywood.

The actor shared that this pivotal moment came after years of relentless effort and countless rejections:

“That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1,000 auditions.”
