Ace music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke, has debunked long-standing rumors that he was responsible for the breakup of the iconic Nigerian music group, Plantashun Boiz.

The trio—2Face (now 2Baba), Blackface, and Faze—dominated the Nigerian music scene in the early 2000s before their infamous split in 2004. Rumors suggested that Kennis Music's signing of 2Face led to the disbandment. However, in a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe clarified that the group had already parted ways before 2Face approached him.

"People have been saying I’m the one responsible for the breakup of Plantashun Boiz. That’s not true," Ogungbe said. "2Face came to me himself after the group had broken up, saying he wanted to sign with Kennis Music. Eedris Abdulkareem also encouraged me to sign him, and I did."

Plantashun Boiz split shortly after the release of their sophomore album, Sold Out, in 2004. Despite their differences, the group briefly reunited in 2007 to release a third and final album, Plan B, before going their separate ways again.

Ogungbe’s clarification sheds light on the dynamics behind the group’s breakup, shifting focus from external influences to the internal issues that plagued the trio. Fans continue to cherish Plantashun Boiz's legacy as one of Nigeria's most influential music groups.
