The launch, which took place in Lagos on Sunday, December 1, marks a milestone in the artist’s illustrious career and serves as a bold response to false rumors of his death in 2023.
The album’s title stems from a peculiar incident in September 2023, when news of Buchi’s alleged passing spread like wildfire across social media. Reflecting on the experience during the album launch, Buchi said:
“I don’t know if you’ve ever seen your own obituary. It’s surreal. I saw my picture with Rest In Peace, and I joked it wasn’t just RIP, it was Rice In Pepper sauce.”
The episode brought an influx of condolence calls to his family and friends, forcing Buchi to do a live interview on Channels TV and collaborate with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to debunk the rumors.
The experience left him deeply reflective: “What if it were true? Life is fleeting. The little time we have left is like extra time to give your best, bless lives, and live fully.”
The 9-track album, featuring two bonus songs, is a testament to Buchi’s renewed purpose. Songs like Give Thanks, Be Strong, King Jesus (featuring Olachi), and Alive And Well (featuring Xtacy) blend uplifting reggae rhythms with powerful biblical messages.
Bonus tracks Cease Fire and Thank You Pastor add a refreshing depth, making this project both a spiritual journey and a musical feast.
Buchi described Alive And Well as not just a comeback but a deliberate effort to connect with today’s audience in an era dominated by social media.
“Back in the day, all I needed was AIT to drop a song. Now, there are so many voices. For this album, we won’t just upload and walk away. We’re engaging the media and the fans directly.”
Since debuting in 1999, Buchi has remained a trailblazer in reggae gospel, using his unique sound to transcend religious and cultural boundaries. Known for songs that resonate across generations, the artist acknowledged the shift in his fan base: “When young people approach me these days, they say, ‘My father loves your music,’ or even ‘My grandmother loves your music.’ It’s humbling and a reminder of how far back my journey goes.”
With Alive And Well, Buchi invites fans old and new to join him in this season of renewed energy and purpose. He describes it as a “partnership” and urges listeners to not just hear his songs but to embrace the message of living fully in the present.
Buchi’s Alive And Well is more than an album—it’s a statement of resilience, a celebration of life, and a call to faith and gratitude. His ability to merge timeless reggae rhythms with contemporary relevance ensures his legacy continues to thrive in the gospel music scene.
