Actor Yemi Solade Rejects “Award for Sale,” Accuses Organizers of Extortion

Nollywood veteran Yemi Solade has made headlines after revealing that an award he was set to receive was withdrawn when he refused to pay for it.

Taking to Instagram, the actor expressed his disappointment, accusing the event organizers of attempting to extort him. Sharing screenshots of his conversation with the organizers, Solade made it clear that he does not condone paying for recognition.

“I refused to pay for the AWARD PLAQUE. This is the outcome,” Solade wrote alongside the chat.

In the leaked exchange, the organizers acknowledged the actor’s refusal to sponsor the event, stating:

“Good morning sir, trust you had a good night rest. I did revert your response regarding sponsorship to the management. However, I think it doesn’t sit well with them as they also disclosed how much the plaques cost. Hence, you can pls attend but the award plaque may not be presented in order to save cost. Thank you for your kind understanding sir.”

Solade, known for his strong principles, expressed dismay at the state of award systems, saying he doesn’t belong to the “class of award plaque buyers.” His post has sparked widespread debate, with many applauding him for standing firm against what they see as a growing trend of commercialization in the industry.
