Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has attributed Nigeria’s flourishing entertainment industry to the country’s challenging living conditions.

Speaking on the ‘Shopping The Sneakers’ podcast, the singer explained that the hardships faced by Nigerians push young people to explore their creative talents as a means of survival.

“When you come to Nigeria, you will understand why we breed so many superstars. To survive in Nigeria is something else, so that’s why the artists that come out of Nigeria are just like hustlers. They are just hustling,” she said.

Savage’s remarks shed light on how the socio-economic realities of life in Nigeria fuel the rise of globally celebrated stars in music, film, comedy, and fashion.

Nigeria is home to Africa’s largest creative industries. Nollywood, the country’s film industry, is the second-largest in the world by output, while Afrobeats has emerged as a global phenomenon, with artists like Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, and Davido topping international charts.

Savage’s comments resonate with many who view the resilience of Nigerian entertainers as a product of their environment. Despite economic challenges, the country continues to produce world-class talent, inspiring audiences globally.

Her statement has sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that Nigeria’s struggles often birth exceptional creativity. Others praised the determination and grit of the nation’s artists, who turn adversity into success.
