Social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Davido's remarks about Nigeria's economy and security.

In a recent video, VeryDarkMan criticized figures like Reno Omokri and Patrick Doyle for their harsh rebukes of the Afrobeats star, asserting that they failed to consider the broader context of Davido's statements.

The uproar began after Davido, in an interview, discouraged Nigerians in America from returning home due to the country's economic instability and insecurity. While his comments sparked criticism from some quarters, VeryDarkMan argued that Davido’s remarks, though blunt, reflected Nigeria’s harsh realities.

“Davido didn’t lie. Nigeria’s insecurity and economic troubles are real. Instead of dragging him, people should look at the truth behind his words,” VeryDarkMan said.

In his video, VeryDarkMan detailed the economic challenges facing Nigeria, pointing out the exodus of major companies like Cussons, Kimberly-Clark, and Microsoft, which have left the country in 2024 due to an unfavorable business climate. He also painted a grim picture of citizens living on less than $5 per week, struggling with soaring food prices and worsening living conditions.

VeryDarkMan urged critics to contextualize Davido’s comments and consider the country's current challenges before condemning him. He noted that while Davido’s billionaire father has significant investments in Nigeria, the singer's honesty should not be overshadowed by expectations of patriotism.

“Just because Davido’s father has a $2 billion investment plant in Nigeria doesn’t mean he should lie that everything is okay,” VeryDarkMan wrote in an Instagram post.
