Popular Nigerian skit maker and actress, Kemi Ikuseedun, widely known as Mummy Wa, has opened up about facing sexual harassment while navigating her career in the entertainment industry. The revelation came during her recent interview on the WithChude podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo.
Mummy Wa, who rose to fame through her roles in Mr Macaroni's comedy skits, shared that her journey to success wasn’t without challenges, including unwanted advances from film producers and directors. She expressed frustration at the pervasive expectation of exchanging favors for roles.
“Behind the scenes, a lot of people are asking for things. They are requesting a whole lot of things that I cannot do,” she disclosed. "Even the ones that seem to have nothing to offer are still making these demands. No woman is free. No woman is immune."
She also noted that such exploitation rarely guarantees success, adding, "You might actually sleep with somebody in the industry, and you will still not ‘blow’ with the role they will give you."
Her candid admission has sparked conversations on social media about the persistent issue of harassment in the industry, with fans and supporters praising her for shedding light on the challenges women face in their careers.
