Hilarious Viral Video: Nigerian Dad Schools Son Over Song Lyrics About Absent Fathers [Video]

A heartwarming and hilarious family moment has taken the internet by storm, as a Nigerian father hilariously confronted his son over the lyrics of a song he was jamming to.

The video, shared widely on social media, shows the son cheekily miming along to “Port Harcourt” by Vicoka, while his father lounges in the living room—unaware of the brewing comic drama.

The boy, who set up a camera to capture his father’s reaction, started performing the song, particularly leaning into the emotional lines.

The song goes...

Life e no easy for Port Harcourt
Food for the table my mama does
Even as a nwatakiri
She go dey waka from Borokiri to trans-amadi, just to feed us (oh)
My papa sef, he leave us (oh)
Them nor want so, they cut off oh
Cut off like scissors oh.....

As the song got to the My papa sef, leave us part was the moment the father decided he’d heard enough. Springing up from his seat, he interrupted the jam session, visibly unimpressed by the lyrics.

“What did that say your papa did? Your papa leave you? When did I leave you?” he demanded, cutting through the vibe with his serious yet comical interrogation.

The son, fumbling for an explanation, managed to mumble, “It’s the lyrics...” But the father was not buying it, delivering a hilarious lecture on why the song’s narrative didn’t align with their reality.

“When you play any song, are you applying it to yourself? Are you saying this is your experience? Your papa leave you? Who is that one? Where is that one coming from?”

Despite the boy’s humble reply, “You are my papa,” the father continued his amusing rant, driving home the point that he had always been an “ever-present daddy.”

He said, "Have I ever left you? What type of song is that?....Your papa leave you, is that a good song? When did baba leave you? Ode (fool)."

He ended the exchange with a firm but funny dismissal:
“What type of song is that? Baba leave you? Baba leave you for what? Silly boy...go away.”

The video has left viewers in stitches, with many applauding the father’s quick wit and protective instincts.
