Embattled American rapper Diddy is facing yet another legal hurdle as his jail cell was allegedly raided by federal agents, who reportedly confiscated privileged materials and personal notes meant for his legal team.
Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has accused prosecutors of leveraging the seized legal documents to undermine the rapper’s defense and keep him in custody ahead of his May 2025 trial.
In a court filing submitted to Manhattan federal court, the defense team argued that the seizure violated Diddy’s Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights, which protect against unlawful searches, self-incrimination, and interference with legal representation.
Agnifilo stated: “This search and seizure are in violation of Combs’ constitutional rights.”
Diddy’s lawyers have called for answers, demanding prosecutors reveal who authorized the raid and why legally protected documents were taken from the rapper’s cell.
Federal Judge Arun Subramanian has ordered prosecutors to respond by 5 p.m. ET Monday and scheduled a hearing on the matter for Tuesday afternoon.
Diddy has been held in pre-trial detention since September 2024, as he awaits trial in a high-profile case that has kept both fans and critics on edge.
The confiscation of privileged materials could have serious repercussions for the prosecution’s case if deemed unconstitutional. Diddy’s legal team is expected to push aggressively for remedies, including the possibility of sanctions or suppression of evidence derived from the raid.
